After releasing their album You Are We back in April as an independent band, it’s been a busy year for While She Sleeps since releasing the album the band have been on a heavy touring schedule touring the world with the new album. After just coming off a US run with supporting Trivium, three days later While She Sleeps the band took over their hometown with a sold out homecoming show at the O2 Academy in Sheffield.
This night showed how much of a dedicated fanbase While She Sleeps actually has, with fans travelling from all over the country for this one night, every single song in the set had fans singing along word for word. There was a vibe that night and a certain energy only While She Sleeps could create. I really like how the band stepped up their production game a little bit bring using smoke cannons on the night which gave the show a small element of that arena rock vibe in a smaller setting.
The band played quite a lot of You Are We that (including the track Steal The Sun which made it’s live debut) along with other fan favourites from previous albums such as This Is The Six, Seven Hills, Brainwashed just to name a few. What was quite surprising that night was the fact the band played not one… but two tracks from their debut The North Stands For Nothing (the tracks ‘Crows’ and ‘Trophies’) just little additions like that into the set really did make it ten times better.
Massive love to Loz Taylor for being one of the most wild frontmen in metal today, pulling stunts such as climbing to the balcony area of the venue jumping into the audience, crowd surfing his way back to the stage. It’s was metal show that had a punk rock spirit and thats what makes While She Sleeps stand out amongst other bands within the metalcore genre it’s what so many other bands within their scene are lacking in their live shows, I guarantee anyone who walked in that venue who either A) Never seeing While She Sleeps live before or B) never even hearing of the band in general, you can bet they walked gaining more appreciation for this band.
While She Sleeps showed why they are not just one of best live bands today but just one of the best band in general, this hometown show is definitely a landmark moment in While She Sleeps’ career, this is a band that are continuously on the rise and by the looks of it show no signs of slowing down.
